The first Shropshire Art Society printing session of the new season saw nine people attending, including four new members to the group. The group includes people with a wide range of interests and experiences and members work on their on projects and benefit from sharing skills with each other.

Sketch Club Extra-Mural Studies at Snailbeach Mine, was a fitting end to the season. This historic site provided plenty of challenging views; particularly of BRICKS. Thank you to Catherine and Jo for organising this, and all other places we have been fortunate enough to visit this year. It was fun!
Words by Alison Clarke. Thanks to all who have contributed to the Sketch Club web reports in 2013 and to everyone who has enjoyed the Sketch Club with us and featured in our photographs.
On August 15th the Shropshire Art Society had a marvellous visit to Upton Cressett Hall (uptoncressetthall.co.uk), with its interesting Gatehouse and Norman Church. The setting was splendid and there were many challenging views to draw and paint. A great day out was enjoyed by all.

On the last Monday in July, the Shropshire Art Society welcomed the artist Carole Baker RBSA (www.carolebaker.com) to the beautiful The Trinity Centre, Meole Village, to give a painting demonstration to some 50 of our members. It was an immensely enjoyable and inspiring afternoon as Carole generously answered our questions, gave away some of her painting secrets, shared her beautiful sketch books, and made an acrylic painting, over a period of about 2 hours, before our eyes.
Carole explained that she would take the painting away, leave it for a few weeks, and then go back to work on it to the finish. She promised to send us a photo of the painting so that we can see how it turns out. Here is a shot of the painting at the end of the demonstration, and, below it, the finished painting called ‘Little Streamlets Thread’ which has now been sold.

Our thanks must go to Carole herself — it was lovely to host you Carole, to Rob Leckey who organised the event, to all the people who made delicious cakes for the tea break, and to the staff at the hall who were so very helpful and friendly. Our next demo, by the artist Stan Kaminski (www.stankaminski.com) is scheduled for September 19th. We look forward to welcoming him and hope to see lots of our members there.
Thank you to the Shropshire Star for this latest article about our successful Summer Exhibition held in St Mary’s Church, Shrewsbury. In case you missed it, we publish a copy of it here on our News Blog. Enjoy!
