Welcome to the Shropshire Art Society, a thriving community of artists and lovers of the visual arts, based in the beautiful county of Shropshire. We showcase our work to the public in two annual art exhibitions in Shrewsbury, and organise a wide variety of activities for our members.
Our friendly Society is long-established. It was originally formed in 1948 when it evolved from a group of Shrewsbury artists known as The Shrewsbury Seven that had been meeting since 1924. Over the decades the Society has transformed itself from a small membership of painters exhibiting their work, to a community of around 200 people — artists and non-artists, all with two things in common: residence in Shropshire and an interest in art. The Shropshire Art Society has four major aims:
- To further and encourage interest in the visual arts in Shropshire
- To arrange classes and workshops, lectures, and visits to exhibitions
- To organise exhibitions of members’ work
- To render practical help to artists and students
Membership is open to painters and non-painters alike. To qualify for membership, applicants are simply required to have Shropshire residency and a love of the visual arts. (Please note that we are only able to accept members who are 16+ years old.)
We invite you to explore the Shropshire Art Society website and take a look at our Frequently Asked Questions. We will be delighted to hear from you or to see you at one of our events very soon!
