Our Summer Exhibition in St. Mary’s Church ended on 13th July with record sales achieved and over 50 paintings (framed and unframed) sold. Congratulations to all artists who exhibited as we received many wonderful comments from the viewing public about the quality of the exhibition overall and about many of the individual works on show.
Our Chairman Wilf Langford was featured in the Shropshire Star, early in the exhibition, holding ‘Shades of Summer’ by Wen Williamson (winner of the Judy Townsend Memorial prize) – we were delighted to receive this coverage.
Sally Townsend Blake spent the afternoon photographing members’ paintings for the ‘Our Artists’ page of our website. John Willetts, our exhibition organiser, and Rob Leckey, our Treasurer, did a marvellous job coordinating events including the new boards, hanging system and lights, and we are very grateful to them and to all members of our Committee for the extra work they put in during the exhibition. Thanks too to every member who manned the exhibition – we couldn’t do it without you. And last but not least to the all the volunteers at St. Marys for taking care of us and making us so welcome. All in all a great team effort!
Finally, we are pleased to announce that the winner of the Summer 2013 People’s prize, voted for by visiting members of the public as their favourite painting in the exhibition, is… Orchy Falls by Alison Cutter. Congratulations Alison!
We are now already thinking ahead to our Autumn Exhibition in the Bear Steps and to next year in St. Mary’s.
Here’s to many more successful exhibitions for the Shropshire Art Society!
