Brecon, what a glorious new Paintaway location we enjoyed!

On Monday 20th May more than 30 members made their way independently to the Castle of Brecon Hotel for our annual four-night painting holiday. The welcoming hotel proved an excellent base for exploration of this very attractive area. With the Brecon Beacons dominating the view from the hotel and the many attractive small towns and historic sites to visit, there was no shortage of exciting subjects for our sketching and painting activities.

Blessed with wonderful weather, the views from the hotel and surrounds were stunning, and gave us plenty to celebrate over drinks and dinner.

It was especially good to welcome members joining us for the first time, and to see some of us taking the opportunity to support the local theatre. At our traditional final night gathering, members shared their experiences and sketchbooks, after which Alan Townsend and Liz Carr were thanked by Barry Lowe, our Chairman, for their careful organisation and efforts to make our stay so enjoyable and successful.

The sharing of sketchbooks on the final evening is a lovely SAS Paintaway tradition.

So many points of architecture and nature to explore and sketch or paint. Photos by Mike White, and the one of our Paintaway lead organiser Alan outside the hotel with thanks to Liz Carr.

Thanks go to Mike White for his very professional photographic record of our stay.

Join us in 2020 for the Annual Paintaway which is planned to be to… Buxton!
